I have always been a huge fan of several California breeding programs, admiring them immensely. Two of which—-have been at the top of my list for years now, along with multiple reservations from both farms to go with our Oliver lines. In fact, Oliver was sought after & purchased bc the does I had buck reservations at Castle Rock only had doelings—-two years in a row. (Love the scripture, “Man plans his way, but its the Lord that directs his steps.” Prov 16:9). I’m so very thankful for the influence of Cedar View’s lines—-bc, truly, Isabella is such a beautiful doe, and was just starting to hit her peak—-how could I pass up the opportunity? However, their lines were still somewhat similar to what we already had with two of our Valentino daughters, their sons, etc. Knowing that, I kept my reservations current w Castle Rock—-(Blizzard, Snownamie, and Flash Flood), but also began actively researching (aka stalking) Curbstone Valley’s website—-especially since Clare has become a dear friend and I am so blessed by her heart, patience, & expertise as she invests so much of her time back into our industry via multiple forums.
Fast forward another 2 years—-the Castle Rock does had retired or had tragically passed, and the Curbstone Valley does also deciding to go with more doelings than bucklings. My top choice, GCH Ocean—-is, in my opinion, just as lovely as Isabella and totally compliments her genetics. In 2019, her last year in milk, Ocean LA’d w EEEE92, won multiple BOBs and was Best Senior Doe in Show (at 8 yrs old), in the highly competitive REDGA show!!! Ocean unfortunately, was retired that year—-a great decision but somewhat frustrating for me—not to mention being too late a couple years prior, when inquiring about two does from the Alethia herd dispersal (SGCH Honey Dew Ya Love Me aka “Meme” and GCH Written in the Stars “Destiny”).
So, imagine my joy—-and awe of God’s orchestrations, that Clare bought the very does I wanted. I especially was drawn to Destiny—-not only bc she’s a super lovely doe, but also bc she had been bred to Honeymoon Bay—a son of Montego Bay, a buck I have always really liked. Sarah (Castle Rock) had expertly built some of her very best from this buck and his progeny.
At Curbstone, Destiny ended up kidding 2 Finished CHs from that litter. One of which is Ariel’s sire, CH Destiny’s Starman (aka “Ziggy”), who was LA’d as a 2YO with EVE90. His litter sister (“Allie”) Udder LA’s are amazing—- scoring a 36 for her Fore, a 40 Rear Udder Height, & a 47 Rear Udder Arch, with a 31 for Medial.
Here’s where it all comes together: I had a reservation for a buckling out of Meme (which ended up being Lil Dewd) and semi jokingly inquired if Clare happened to have a buddy for him to travel with. I nearly fell over—-bc Ziggy was bred to Callie (an Ocean daughter—-whose sire Darby is a half brother to the 2019 ADGA National Champion Doe, CH Castle Rock Tahitian Sunset). And, there you go—-God’s Faithfulness…I have two gorgeous Curbstone Valley boys—-one is an Ocean Gdaughter, with Castle Rock lines, by Ziggy—-out of Destiny, by a buck whose sire is Montego Bay—-thus Ariel is distantly line-bred on both sides. As well as Jupiter.
