I have always been a huge fan of several California breeding programs, admiring them immensely. Two of which—-have been at the top of my list for years now, along with multiple reservations from both farms to go with our Oliver lines. In fact, Oliver was sought after & purchased bc the does I had buck reservations at Castle Rock only had doelings—-two years in a row. (Love the scripture, “Man plans his way, but its the Lord that directs his steps.” Prov 16:9). I’m so very thankful for the influence of Cedar View’s lines—-bc, truly, Isabella is such a beautiful doe, and was just starting to hit her peak—-how could I pass up the opportunity? However, their lines were still somewhat similar to what we already had with two of our Valentino daughters, their sons, etc. Knowing that, I kept my reservations current w Castle Rock—-(Blizzard, Snownamie, and Flash Flood), but also began actively researching (aka stalking) Curbstone Valley’s website—-especially since Clare has become a dear friend and I am so blessed by her heart, patience, & expertise as she invests so much of her time back into our industry via multiple forums.
Fast forward another 2 years—-the Castle Rock does had retired or had tragically passed, and the Curbstone Valley does also deciding to go with more doelings than bucklings. My top choice, GCH Ocean—-is, in my opinion, just as lovely as Isabella and totally compliments her genetics. The other amazing Curbstone doe I’ve always admired is SG/Elite Lotus, 2x GCH & 2x Best of Breed. Lotus also managed to be an Elite Doe for 4 years—-2017, 2018, 2019 & 2020; made Top 10, including Breed Leader in one, or all categories in both registries. In 2018, Lotus was #1, sweeping all 3 categories with AGS. Her 305 that year was 1620# and sadly, thus far, Lotus hasn’t kidded since then.
The following year, Ocean unfortunately, was retired and I kept searching—of course, I was too late when inquiring about two does from the Alethia herd dispersal (SGCH Honey Dew Ya Love Me aka “Meme” and GCH Written in the Stars “Destiny”). So, imagine my joy—-and awe of God’s orchestrations, that Clare bought the very does I wanted.
In 2016 Lotus kidded a buckling by CH Abraham Darby. (note: Darby’s dam is GCH/ARMCH Tuscan Sun—-the dam of 2019 ADGA National Champion Doe CH Castle Rock Tahitian Sun). The result of the Darby & Lotus breeding was CH Desert Indigo, who tragically passed Dec of 2019. His last crop included a buck named Space Oddity—-whose dam (“Destiny”) is one of the 2 Alethia does I had wanted. Space Oddity was bred to the other Alethia doe, “Meme” who is line bred on the legendary SGCH/Elite Tupelo Honey EEEE91, ADGA Rsv National Champion Doe (making her the 4th of 4 generations to be Nat’l CH or Rsv Natl CH does) and producer of 8 SGCHs, SGs, CHs.
