I’m very excited about Penny (and her sister, Aliyah). All 3 daughters of Peridot’s that year are just gorgeous girls, but two of the three encountered some major obstacles their first kidding. We had an unexpected challenge with Penny her 1st lactation—early on, she developed a congested udder and ended up affecting one side—we worked hard to save it, and praise the Lord, everything ended up healthy. But Penny’s left side basically dried up. So, her numbers seem low (especially for her pedigree), but that she easily nursed her twin wethers, and finished out her 305 with half an udder is outstanding. Her total was 590# and her Test High—2.6#. Double that—-and you have a fabulous 305, especially for a FF. Unfortunately, her litter sister (Aliyah) kidded a single that was DOA…and while, she also earned her stars—-she didn’t produce a high volume of milk. BOTH sisters are absolutely fabulous to milk…and have super lovely udders.
We sold the 3rd sister (Tabernacles) to a dear friend, Jordyn Gary, who allowed us to finish out her 305. Tabby had a great lactation and ended up milking so very close to 1000# (987#), received her Superior Genetics, and had a 91% PE—-also close to becoming ADGA Elite.
Needless to say, I’m really looking forward to their 2nd Freshening with great hopes (and lots of prayer).
