Besides Rosh (& Oliver, of course), Buffalo is everyone’s favorite boy. He just has the sweetest, most fun personality, and is a total love muffin. And, you can see—-a very handsome young buck. Tim was very impressed (no easy feat bc Tim is harder on young stock, esp bucks—-understandably). He scored in the 90’s for General Appearance, Dairy Character, and chest/heart girth—-but 88 for barrel in Body Capacity…which will definitely come with age.
I absolutely love both of my California boys, Ariel & Dewd (aka Dude)—-and their very outstanding babies from 2021. Its now to the point that we can’t seem to pick a favorite. Each buck has distinct contributions. Dude’s entire dam line on both sides are Finished Champions in one or both registries and/or SG/Elite/Breed Leaders w LA scores 90+.
That said, I decided to keep a buckling (we do NOT need any more bucks) from both. Buffalo is the very handsome son of Dude, & out of one of our beautiful & very loved older does, Melee. Melee’s dam line is wonderful—as we’ve had the pleasure of owning her Gdam (“Queen”) a 5x GCH, BU, BOB, BIS doe and CH and several of her daughters. Queen came to us as an older, retired. doe. I had seen her in her prime—-and WOW— Queen had such a great udder and one of the best milkers I’ve witnessed . The half sister to Melee’s dam’s is a doe we have (now retired) and most adored SGCH Priesty EEEE91—-Top 10 Milker (1292#), 4x GCH, 2x BOB. Both Priesty & Melee are dreams to milk. Interestingly, Melee’s maternal Gsire has the same lines as our doe SG/Elite Tizrah.
Melee’s sire came from one of the biggest blessings we’ve had over the years, our friendship with Kate & Ben Helms (Helmstead Minis). Kate became my mentor and was so patient with me as we learned how to navigate kiddings, nutrition, pedigrees, etc. It was our great honor to bring in four of her does (which included Melee) whose sire was SG Rosasharn MR General +*B +*S, +DAR VVE89—-and now recognized as one of the few true “Udder Bucks.” Our breed has improved over the years by many contributions—-some well-recognized, others shadowed by controversy, yet none deny that many of the changes have been beneficial. General was legitimately a very influential buck—-and died way before his time.
The best part of Freedom is he NOT related to the bulk of our herd. A HUGE plus when trying to outcross the Oliver progeny.
We LOVE this little guy—mainly bc he’s a total lap baby. Cute, until it isn’t. He’s always ready to give kisses and keeps everyone laughing. One of the best personalities on our farm
It will take some time to put together a pedigree. But you can refer back to the pages of Melee & Dewd (aka Dude) to get a more complete glimpse of why we retained Freedom!!!!
